Happy New Year, friends! I hope you all had an amazing holiday season and are rested and recharged for getting back into the swing of things for the new year. I’m definitely not ready to go back to the grind of work, but at least I know my fridge is stocked and ready to go with healthy meals to help me get back to feeling like myself after all the holiday indulgence.
Of course, it’s also that time of year when you’re sure to be bombarded with “new year, new you” and fad diet messaging at every turn. And while those “lose weight quick” schemes can be tempting, nourishing your body with healthy, well-balanced meals is where it’s at for me. I’ve been meal prepping for 11 years now (can’t believe it’s been that long!!!!) and although the type of meal prep I do may not work for everyone, it’s my favorite healthy habit. So if you’re interested in meal prep, you’ve come to the right place!

2024: Year in Review
2024 was another super busy year here at PBF and in my actual job with the Coast Guard. Here are a few highlights, working backwards in time…
Glacier National Park Hiking Trip: I originally had this trip scheduled back in 2020 with some friends, and we can all guess how that turned out. I finally got Glacier back on the calendar this year and honestly, I was way better prepared this time both physically and planning-wise, so it all worked out. I ended up hiking just shy of 60 miles and over 8,700ft elevation gain over the course of 6 days and finally got to see a grizzly on my last day. Don’t worry, she and her cubs were a safe distance away (and too fast for my camera) 😉

Shenandoah National Park Hiking Trip: In late April, I was able to break away from work for a quick trip out to Shenandoah. It’s not as glamorous as Glacier, but it’s only a few hours drive from where I live and still has some great trails. The one on the far left is from Old Rag Trail, which included a ton of scrambling and totally kicked my butt!

Key Bridge Response: In my “day” job, I serve as a Coast Guard officer and have been stationed in Baltimore since summer of 2023. When the Francis Scott Key Bridge was struck by a ship and collapsed, I got the call that morning at 2 am and spent the next week working a lot and sleeping very little during the initial response. I ended up on a press conference on live national TV that first morning and got to shake the President’s hand about 10 days later. Being part of the response was an experience I’ll never forget!
