You need this herby 5-Minute Green Sauce to pair with grilled meats and veggies at summer barbecues! This year I’ve decided to lean in to growing fresh herbs in my garden and I have to say that my parsley and dill are already absolute rockstars. If and when you also have an abundance of herbs this summer, pop them right into a food processor and blend up this 5 minute sauce to pair with grilled meats and veggies!
When I dreamt up this sauce, I really wanted something that was like a cross between a chimichurri and aji verde. Herby, bright, and creamy, but not so bold or funky that it overpowers the meat that it’s paired with. Because if you know me, you know I’m something of a chicken perfectionist and my grilled chicken in particular speaks for itself – juicy, flavorful, crave-worthy. This green sauce works perfectly for what I was going for and brings a tangy and bright pop of fresh herbs that complements my Best Ever Grilled Chicken Drumsticks. That’s a recipe that’s taken me years to perfect and I know you’ll love it too, especially paired with this dreamy green sauce!

Ingredients and Substitutions
Here’s what you’ll need to recreate this 5-Minute Green Sauce:
- Fresh herbs – I used parsley and cilantro in a 1:1 ratio here and wouldn’t want to go any higher on the parsley. This would be great with a little bit of basil in there too.
- Green onion – You can use everything but the roots from the green onion. A little bit of regular onion could work here if you’re in a pinch.
- Jalapeño – Most jalapeños aren’t very spicy anymore, so don’t be too concerned about the spice level in this sauce. Add more to taste!
- Garlic – Yes, I only used one clove for this sauce! Yes, you can use more, but I would be really cautious about using more than 2 unless you want a garlic forward sauce. If you don’t have fresh, 1/2 tsp of the dried stuff will work.
- Lime juice – Lemon juice would work here if you didn’t have any limes, but it would also change the vibe of the sauce a bit.
- Plain Greek yogurt – Here’s where the creaminess comes in! I like the 2% fat version, but any will work. If you want an even creamier consistency, add more. Sour cream could also work here.
- Honey – You need a little sweetness to round out the acidity in this sauce. Honey or regular granulated sugar would work here, but I don’t recommend maple syrup or brown sugar.
